Whether you are finishing a Kilimanjaro climb or heading to Zanzibar afterward, this 4-day Tanzania safari extension completes your East Africa journey with two legendary northern parks: Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. Travel at your own pace in a private 4×4 safari vehicle with an experienced, English-speaking guide from Extenterra Safari’s.

Ngorongoro Crater holds one of Africa’s highest wildlife concentrations and is among the continent’s best places to encounter the Big Five. In Tarangire, ancient baobab woodlands shelter enormous elephant herds — the largest gathering of wild elephants on Earth during peak season. This flexible private safari lets you choose when each game drive starts and ends, so your days in the bush match your rhythm.

What To Expect

1

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Walk out of Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to a warm Karibu Tanzania welcome from your private Extenterra Safari’s guide. Transfer to your lodge near Arusha to rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for tomorrow’s game drives. Your exclusive private safari begins the next morning — travel on your schedule with your own vehicle and expert guide.

  • Meet & greet at JRO arrivals hall
  • Private transfer to Arusha-area lodge
  • Safari briefing and questions with your guide
2

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for massive elephant herds and iconic baobab trees. Baobabs store water that elephants rely on in the dry season, drawing hundreds of animals to the Tarangire River — the park’s lifeline when surrounding land is parched. Watch lions, giraffes, zebra, and buffalo against golden savannah backdrops.

  • Full-day game drive with picnic lunch in the park
  • Elephant photography at river viewpoints
  • Overnight near Tarangire / Lake Manyara region
3

Day 3: Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Crater)

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO-listed caldera formed two million years ago and now home to Africa’s densest wildlife populations. Black rhino, lion prides, flamingos on Lake Magadi, and vast herds of wildebeest and zebra create unforgettable sightings. The crater rim offers panoramic views before your descent — one of Tanzania’s most dramatic landscapes.

  • Early-morning crater descent for peak animal activity
  • Big Five spotting opportunities throughout the floor
  • Picnic lunch inside the crater (weather permitting)
4

Day 4: Departure from Kilimanjaro International Airport

Enjoy a relaxed morning at your lodge depending on your international flight time. Your guide transfers you back to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight home — or continue your holiday with a Zanzibar beach extension, extra safari days in the Serengeti, or cultural tours in Arusha. Ask us to tailor the perfect add-on.

  • Flexible checkout aligned with your flight schedule
  • Private airport transfer to JRO
  • Optional extensions available on request

Tanzania Safari FAQs
  • June-October and December-February offer dry weather, excellent wildlife viewing, and comfortable game-drive conditions. March and November are mid-season with fewer crowds. • Your package includes accommodations, park fees, a private 4x4 safari jeep, English-speaking guide, full board on safari days, game drives, and Kilimanjaro airport transfers. International flights, visas, travel insurance, drinks, and personal expenses are not included unless stated in your custom quote.

  • Absolutely. This 4-day northern circuit extension is a starting point. Add Serengeti nights, upgrade lodges, adjust pacing, or combine with Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, or cultural experiences. Contact Extenterra Safari's for a tailor-made proposal at no obligation.

  • Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa's top Big Five destinations - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino are regularly sighted. Tarangire is exceptional for elephants and also hosts lion, leopard, and buffalo. Wildlife is wild and free-roaming, so sightings vary by season and luck.

  • Tanzania is a well-established safari destination with welcoming communities in tourist regions. Travel with licensed operators, follow your guide's safety instructions in parks, and use standard travel precautions for valuables. Our team supports you before, during, and after your trip.
