This 3-day Northern Tanzania express safari is built for travelers with limited time who still want two iconic wildlife experiences: elephant-rich Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater — one of Africa’s densest Big Five habitats. Travel privately in a pop-up roof 4×4 Land Cruiser with an expert English-speaking guide from Extenterra Safari’s.
Perfect as a standalone long weekend, a pre- or post-Kilimanjaro add-on, or the safari half of a Zanzibar combination, this route delivers the essence of the northern circuit in a focused, high-quality format. Choose mid-range, luxury, or exclusive lodge tiers — we quote transparently for your party size and season.
Your Extenterra guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for a private transfer to your Arusha-area lodge. Settle in, enjoy dinner, and join an evening pre-safari briefing covering safety, park rules, and tomorrow’s drive to Tarangire.
After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park (approx. 2 hours) for a full day of game drives among ancient baobabs and large elephant herds along the Tarangire River. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, then continue to Karatu near the Ngorongoro highlands for dinner and overnight (approx. 2–2.5 hours from Tarangire).
Early breakfast, then descend into the Ngorongoro Crater — the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Track the Big Five, flamingos on Lake Magadi, hippos, and predators on the crater floor with a picnic lunch. Ascend in the afternoon and drive to JRO (approx. 4 hours) for your international departure.
Your quote typically includes park and crater fees, accommodation for two nights, a private 4×4 vehicle and guide, full board on safari days, bottled water, JRO airport transfers, and Flying Doctors evacuation cover. International flights, visas, tips, drinks, and personal expenses are excluded unless stated in your confirmation.
June through October offers dry-season wildlife concentrations — especially elephants in Tarangire. December through February is also excellent with green scenery and good crater viewing. We advise on lodge availability and road conditions for your exact dates.
This itinerary is designed as a private safari for your party only — one vehicle, one guide, your pace. Fixed-date group departures can be arranged on request.
Indicative mid-range pricing starts from about USD 819 per person (six travellers) and from about USD 1,050 per person (two travellers). Luxury tiers from about USD 1,810 per person (two travellers) depending on lodges and season. Submit a booking enquiry for a transparent, itemized quote.
Yes — the itinerary ends with a drive to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). We recommend international flights departing after 18:00 to allow for crater time and the approx. four-hour transfer. Early flights may require adjusting the crater visit — tell us your flight details when you enquire.
Absolutely. Many guests add Serengeti nights, a Kilimanjaro trek, or a Zanzibar beach stay before or after this express route. We build seamless routing and one invoice where possible.
We quote mid-range, luxury, and exclusive properties — for example Under the Shades or Bougainvillea (mid-range), Arusha Coffee Lodge or Neptune Ngorongoro (luxury), and Gran Melia Arusha or The Manor Ngorongoro (exclusive). Tell us your comfort level and budget.
Ngorongoro Crater is one of the best places in Africa to search for rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, and leopard in a single day. Tarangire is renowned for elephants and also hosts lion, leopard, and buffalo. Wildlife is wild — sightings vary by season and luck.
